Drilling Bay County for 56 years

Started by CJ Pollock, a Navy veteran and Master Plumber. Run today by his grandson, Cliff Taylor.

About Pollock

Panama City's water well experts.

CJ Pollock came home from the Navy after World War II, became one of Panama City's few Master Plumbers, and in 1970 founded Pollock Well Drilling. He built his first rig "out of the junk yard, one part at a time." His grandson, Cliff Taylor, started helping him at about ten years old, bought the business some 30 years ago, and runs it today.

When a pump fails, we don't just swap parts. We find out why it failed and tell you how to keep it from happening again. We can bring water up, but we didn't put it down there, so we also test and treat it to make sure what comes out of your tap is right.

Our story
Troubleshooting

Is something wrong with your well?

These are the calls we get most. If one sounds familiar, give us a call before a small problem turns into a burned-out pump.

Pressure keeps dropping

Often a waterlogged pressure tank, a failing pressure switch, or a pump losing output.

Pump repairs →

Pump clicks on and off

Rapid cycling wears out pumps fast. It usually points to the tank or switch, and it's cheaper to fix early.

Pump repairs →

Water smells like rotten eggs

That's usually hydrogen sulfide (sulfur water). Aeration, chlorination or filtration can remove it.

Water treatment →

Orange or black stains

Iron and manganese stain fixtures and laundry. A water test tells us which treatment will work.

Water testing →

Cloudy, sandy or sputtering water

Air or sand in the line can mean a problem with the pump, the screen, or the well itself.

Well service →

No water at all

Check the breaker first. If it hasn't tripped, call us. We offer emergency and holiday repairs.

How a new well comes together

From site visit to first glass of water.

  1. 1

    Site visit & consultation

We look at your property, how much water you need, and where the well can legally go, with proper setbacks from septic tanks, buildings and other hazards.

  2. 2

    Permit

Florida requires a licensed water well contractor to pull the well construction permit from the Northwest Florida Water Management District. We take care of it.

  3. 3

    Drilling & casing

We drill to a good water-bearing zone, set the casing suited to the local geology, and seal it to keep surface water out.

  4. 4

    Pump, tank & hookup

We size and install the pump, pressure tank and controls, and handle the plumbing and electrical hookups.

  5. 5

    Test & treat

A new well needs testing and disinfection before you drink from it. We test the water and recommend treatment if it's needed.

Common questions

Quick answers for well owners.

Do I need a permit to drill a well?

Yes. In Northwest Florida, a well construction permit from the Northwest Florida Water Management District is required to build, repair or plug a well, and only a Florida licensed water well contractor can apply for it. We handle the permit as part of the job.

How often should I test my well water?

The Florida Department of Health strongly recommends testing private wells for bacteria and nitrate at least once a year, and most homeowners should test for lead every three years. Test again after flooding, repairs, or any change in taste, smell or color.

Do you offer emergency service?

Yes. Being without water can't wait, so we offer emergency and holiday pump repairs. Call (850) 763-6057.

Is the consultation really free?

Yes. We offer free consultations on new wells, repairs and water quality. Call and tell us what's going on.
